About Troop 147

A new option for girls in Concord

Troop 147 was founded in 2025 to provide girls in and around Concord an option to explore the outdoors, learn new skills, and develop as leaders. We are grateful to the Concord Scout House for their support in establishing and sponsoring our Troop.

Our adult leaders include Eagle scouts, leaders in Concord’s Cub Scout program (serving girls and boys in grades K-5), and parents of boys in Concord’s Troop 132. These leaders are passionate about Scouting and committed to building a strong Troop.

Scouting is better with friends, and we welcome new members all year. Each event is an opportunity to introduce friends to Scouting and grow our Troop. Scouts who recruit a friend to join receive the “Recruiter” patch and other incentives. New members receive a troop t-shirt, unit number patch, and “Founder” patch as a welcome package after registering.

You have questions.
We have (some) answers.

Who can join Troop 147 in Concord?

All girls and nonbinary youth aged 11 to 17 from Concord and nearby communities are welcome to join.

Youth participants and adult supporters can join by registering online with Scouting America.

When do you meet?

Weekly Troop meetings are a core of the Scouting program. Meetings are a time for scouts to teach and learn skills, plan activities, and have fun with some games.

We also aim for one outing per month, which may be a day trip or overnight. Registered families can find details on our Troop Calendar.

Our Troop meets each Tuesday from 7:00-8:15 pm at the Concord Scout House, 74 Walden St.

We’re not very outdoorsy. Is that ok?

Absolutely! Everyone starts somewhere. Scouting uses the outdoors as a classroom of sorts, where youth can be inspired, get out of their comfort zones, and unplug.

Fellow scouts and adults will teach you all you need to know to participate. Before long, your scout will be teaching others!

Scouts can nominate and express support for various activities throughout the year. This is a way Scouts can introduce friends to a fun experience and rise to new challenges in a supportive environment.

What types of activities does Troop 147 offer?

Outdoor activities are the heart of the Scouting program. We have plans to go hiking, camping, biking, skiing, tackle ropes courses, and more. Our youth members decide what kinds of events they want to do, and we are always ready to support new ideas.

Being in New England, we believe in being prepared for any weather and are active year round. Our adults are trained to manage potentially hazardous weather conditions and ensure safety on each outing.

I’d like to learn more before committing to scouting. Is this possible?

Yes! We invite all eligible members of the community to join in on meetings and day trips to learn more about our troop and decide if it is a good fit for them.

Scouts and adults must be registered to participate in overnights, for safety and insurance reasons.

What does membership cost?

Annual national, regional, and local dues total about $350. These fees cover training, insurance, and some group costs for activities, such as campsite reservations and group meals. We supplement dues with fundraising activities and charitable donations.

For outings with admission fees or more complex costs such as ferries, participants pay a per capita share of costs.

Families are also responsible for providing the scout’s uniform and suggested basic equipment. We know good outdoors gear is an investment, and have loaner gear available for those who want or need it. Many new scouts borrow gear to start with.

Financial assistance is available—no Scout is turned away for financial reasons.
